Mead at a glance
Mead is a suburban community of about 7,600 people just north of Spokane, beside the Hillyard and Shiloh Hills neighbourhoods. Deadman Creek splits it into an older southern townsite and newer development to the north.
What that means for your electrical
Larger lots in and around Mead often come with detached garages, shops and outbuildings, each needing its own circuits or a subpanel. Older homes in the original townsite may still have small panels. See appliance and shop circuits.
North-side winters
Homes on the north side often see heavier snow and colder nights. A generator with a proper transfer switch keeps a furnace and well pump running during an outage; see generators.
Rail stop to suburb
Named after Civil War general George Meade, Mead was the second stop on the Spokane Falls & Northern Railway in 1900, with a general store, blacksmith and school. The Kaiser Aluminum Mead Works employed many locals from 1942 until 2001, and Cyan Worlds, maker of Myst and Riven, is based here. US 395 and Highway 2 meet at a large interchange on its western edge.
