Old houses, new demands
Spokane is the largest city in eastern Washington, with about 229,000 people, and much of its housing near downtown, the South Hill and the North Side dates from the early 1900s. Many of those homes still have original wiring, small panels or a mix of old and new circuits added over the decades. Adding a heat pump, an EV charger or a kitchen remodel often means checking whether the panel and wiring can carry it. See panel upgrades.
Outages are part of winter
The area has been through major outages before. Ice Storm '96 in November 1996 and the windstorm of November 17, 2015 each left large parts of the Spokane area without power, some for days. Snow, ice and wind still take lines down most winters. A properly installed generator and transfer switch keeps heat and essentials running; read preparing for winter outages.
